Prostitute Music

WARNING: This post has been rated "R" by ME for explicit song lyrics. Reader discretion is advised.

Seriously, I know I have talked to most of my readers about this already, but I'm disturbed by it so I feel like I should blog about it. What is up with the prostitute music lately?!?! Have you listened to the radio? Usually I listen to my iPod a lot (and now I'm realizing why) but lately I've been listening to the radio a little more and it seems like every song I hear is talking about sex. What's sad is that some of the artists that are doing it are one's that I have previously had a lot of respect for. To make matters worse the songs are not sweet lovey dovey let's "make love" to the one only person in the world who completes me... blahblahblah. NOOOOOO! It's all about let's sleep around as much as we can! YEA! EWWWW!!!

I give you exhibit A:
Artist: Nelly Furtado
Song: Promiscuous (If that doesn't say it right there, I don't know what does).
Lyrics

This is an artist I like. She's incredibly talented and comes from a multi-cultural family whose culture she tend to integrate into her music. I just don't know why she had to do this song.

Exhibit 2:
Artist: Rihanna
Song: Unfaithful
Lyrics

This girl is all of about 17 years old and she talking about sleeping around on her boyfriend. WHY? and more importantly, why is it acceptable? Where are her parents?

Next:
Artist: The Pussycat Dolls featuring Snoop Dog
Song: Buttons
Lyrics

So maybe it's unfair to expect Las Vegas hookers (i'm sorry they're "dancers") to sing a song about something other than sex.... so sorry, my bad!

Last one:
Artist: Cassie
Song: Me & U
Lyrics

This one's the best. Not only is one of the first lines in the song, "I'm here to answer your call" (PROSTITUTE!!!!!!!!!) But she talks about other guys want to know how she is, this guy gets to be the lucky one to try her out first!!! (HOOKER!)

So there are multiple reasons that these songs are disturbing to me. For starters, it's PROSTITUTE MUSIC!!! 2) These are some of the number one songs in the country right now. 3) My 14 year little sister can probably sing along with them. 4) (perhaps the most disturbing) I can sing along with most of them!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could go on and on.

So, am I just getting old? Is that why it bothers me? I mean I know the music industry (as well as many other industries) understands that sex sells. As much as some of us may hate it, it's true. And sex songs have always been out there and frequently been mainstream.

Ok... it's too late... can't think about this anymore. I'm just curious to see when we'll get the song titles like, "Pregnant at 14" and "Sleep with me and get an STD." The least we can do for the youth of America is be honest.
