Things I DIDN'Tdo last weekend

  1. Sit in an airport for an hour and a half waiting for my connecting flight.
  2. Climb on top of an un-sturdy table to hang a 12 foot sign from an equally un-sturdy metal pipe
  3. Cut myself with a box cutter while trying to open a box of books
  4. Stab myself on one of the 5 million staples that are sticking out of the table waiting to attack me.
  5. Explain to a woman wearing a denim jumper and crocs (a.k.a. ugliest shoes on the planet) why it's not a good idea to teach her 2nd grader Advanced Physics, even if he is "“really advanced."

Oh yeah... one more thing I didn'’t do... I didn'’t go to a CONFERENCE!!!! That'’s right, I'’m done! No more conferences this season. Not that I'’m excited about that or anything. I actually don'’t hate conferences... it's just good to actually be home.

So... what did I do this weekend?!?!

Well, Friday was DATE NIGHT!!!! Haven't had one of those since, oh, probably sometime in March! The boyfriend and I went to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I won't ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. My very brief review is that it was good, but not as good as the first one. It's obviously a 2nd movie in a trilogy. I can't wait to see the third one. i hope they crank up the humor in the third one again, i didn't think the second one was as funny as the first. That's enough on that.

Saturday was Road Trip day, no not the movie, an actual road trip. Will, the boyfriend, and myself all piled into Will's newly acquired little Saturn and headed to Ikea for the day. We made really good time and got to check out the new Ikea that is all of 20 miles from the old one (cuz heaven forbid they build one CLOSER TO ME!!!!) We got Will's desk, my curtain rods, and a few other random things. Then we had the AWESOME task of trying to get a desk inside a Saturn! guess what?! it didn't work! so... we got to strap it to the top of the car!!!!! AWESOME!!! It was big fun and it looked awesome too!

As a reward for our shopping and desk strapping capabilities we went to Gino's for dinner. Mmmmmm Gino's!!! Chicago style deep dish pepperoni salivating I'm salivating just writing about it. Finally, to make the trip complete, we stopped by Jamba Juice so i could get my Mango-a-go-go fix. They seriously have the best smoothies on the planet. Again... OPEN ONE HERE!!!!!!

Sunday was spent dealing with all the stuff we bought. I put up the curtain rods, ironed the curtains, and put them up. The living room is MUCH darker now, and cooler... it's great! We put Will's desk together... well at least part of it. We found an entertainment center (it's actually black, not white) at Ikea that I really liked, but it would require completely rearranging the living room. I wasn't real excited about that, but i figured we should try it out before i throw down $200 for the entertainment center. So, we completely rearranged the living room. I don't love it, but i don't hate it. It's probably more functiaccommodatingss accommodating for me. UGH!

So that was pretty much my weekend. Let's recap... things i didn't do... Conference. Things i did do... had fun! YEA!!!

Prostitute Music

WARNING: This post has been rated "R" by ME for explicit song lyrics. Reader discretion is advised.

Seriously, I know I have talked to most of my readers about this already, but I'm disturbed by it so I feel like I should blog about it. What is up with the prostitute music lately?!?! Have you listened to the radio? Usually I listen to my iPod a lot (and now I'm realizing why) but lately I've been listening to the radio a little more and it seems like every song I hear is talking about sex. What's sad is that some of the artists that are doing it are one's that I have previously had a lot of respect for. To make matters worse the songs are not sweet lovey dovey let's "make love" to the one only person in the world who completes me... blahblahblah. NOOOOOO! It's all about let's sleep around as much as we can! YEA! EWWWW!!!

I give you exhibit A:
Artist: Nelly Furtado
Song: Promiscuous (If that doesn't say it right there, I don't know what does).
Lyrics

This is an artist I like. She's incredibly talented and comes from a multi-cultural family whose culture she tend to integrate into her music. I just don't know why she had to do this song.

Exhibit 2:
Artist: Rihanna
Song: Unfaithful
Lyrics

This girl is all of about 17 years old and she talking about sleeping around on her boyfriend. WHY? and more importantly, why is it acceptable? Where are her parents?

Next:
Artist: The Pussycat Dolls featuring Snoop Dog
Song: Buttons
Lyrics

So maybe it's unfair to expect Las Vegas hookers (i'm sorry they're "dancers") to sing a song about something other than sex.... so sorry, my bad!

Last one:
Artist: Cassie
Song: Me & U
Lyrics

This one's the best. Not only is one of the first lines in the song, "I'm here to answer your call" (PROSTITUTE!!!!!!!!!) But she talks about other guys want to know how she is, this guy gets to be the lucky one to try her out first!!! (HOOKER!)

So there are multiple reasons that these songs are disturbing to me. For starters, it's PROSTITUTE MUSIC!!! 2) These are some of the number one songs in the country right now. 3) My 14 year little sister can probably sing along with them. 4) (perhaps the most disturbing) I can sing along with most of them!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could go on and on.

So, am I just getting old? Is that why it bothers me? I mean I know the music industry (as well as many other industries) understands that sex sells. As much as some of us may hate it, it's true. And sex songs have always been out there and frequently been mainstream.

Ok... it's too late... can't think about this anymore. I'm just curious to see when we'll get the song titles like, "Pregnant at 14" and "Sleep with me and get an STD." The least we can do for the youth of America is be honest.

Quote of the day

So the intern (that's not going to be his nickname, i just don't have time to think of one right now) just said, "Survival of the fittest, and I get the stick." This may not seem funny to you, but it's cracking me up.

Time Flies

You ever feel like time is whizzing by and you just don't know what has happened? This summer has been a blur of hotels and convention centers and i honestly don't even remember what places i've been to or what i've done.

I remember mom and i going to this in Denver. It was rather interesting. The boyfriend had told me about it before and i thought that it was freaky weird and pretty much stupid. Some how, and i still don't really understand how, i decided it could interesting and convinced mom to go check it out. It was actually very educational.

Rica, K-dog and myself went to this a couple weeks ago. It was very fun and again, very educational. We had great food and conversation and AWESOME sangria. There were also lots of great one liners. I wish i could remember more of them but even if i could i think what's said in Ann Arbor should stay in Ann Arbor.

Last week i went to St. Louis for a stupid conference. I don't hate conferences in general, but this one was waaaaaaaaaaay to long and stupid. The hours were really long and all i wanted to do was crash in my room every night. The conference ended on Wednesday and Thursday morning before i headed back I stopped by the St. Louis Arch to snap a couple pics. I of course don't have them with me now so i can't post them, but I'll try to put some up later. Thursday night we had a small family shindig which was fun.

The weekend was spent painting the kitchen, hanging drapes, gouging holes in the kitchen floor, picking ceramic tile to replace the kitchen floor, and taking to dog here to wear him out and help him lose weight.

Monday was FOUUUUUUUUUR!!! That's right kids. I went to play golf. I sucked! Doubled par.... Plus one!!! It was only a 9 hole course but that was plenty for me given the 90+ degree weather. I had a really great time though. I hate putting by the way. It's stupid. I like my driver it's much more fun.

Now I'm in Cali. and now i'm hungry. Mmmmm In and Out burger is calling my name. Gotta GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
